- SUMMER, THE BEACH, AND YOUR RINGS!
SUMMER, THE BEACH, AND YOUR RINGS!
This past Friday, the last bell of the school year rang, and my kids officially entered SUMMER! Sumer always brings such excitement and one of the first things my kids want to do is head to the beach! I’ve had a lot of people ask me about wearing their rings to the beach. So, this week, I figured I would talk about Summer, the Beach, and your Rings!
- One of the first things my father told me about my engagement ring…Do NOT bring your ring to the beach! Just like your fingers shrink when it’s cold outside, the same will happen in cold water. You do not want your ring falling off into the ocean (or the Lake if you are like me and living in ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø). It’s imposible to find a ring once it falls in the water.
- Sand and your rings…. sand can be very abrasive and ruin some of the metals that make up rings… especially gold plating or rhodium. Any solid metal should be okay in the sand. The sand could also get caught in-between your diamonds and the setting- which could cause some stones to come loose.
- Everyone knows that the number one rule of the beach is to apply your sunscreen! But, before you lather up with that sunscreen, i would recommend removing your rings. Sunblock can create a film on the top of your diamonds that will make them dull and less sparkly. So, if you want to keep that diamond shining bright- leave those rings at home!
- The last thing I want to talk about it how to store those precious rings. I know a lot of people who bring a ziplock bag to throw their rings in while at the beach. This is actually not the best idea. A plastic bag cuts off all the air increasing the temperature and sometimes causing chemical reactions of your jewelry to occur. In order to try and avoid damage, my recommendation would be to store your rings in a ring box, (like the one your ring came in when your love got down on his knee), in a cool dry place.
I know your rings become an extension of yourself, that you automatically wake up and put on (if you ever take them off in the first place). The one and only fool proof way to make sure you don’t lose or damage your engagement and wedding rings at the beach is to leave them at home!
If you do bring your rings on that beach vacation, ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø is always here to clean and check your rings when you get back!
