TURNING “OLD” JEWELRY INTO SOMETHING “NEW”
We all have some old jewelry that we just don’t love, but are you willing to take the plunge and actually create new jewelry made from your old jewelry? Maybe it was a gift, or a piece that you inherited, or maybe just something you purchased years ago…that doesn’t mean your jewelry needs to go to waste and sit collecting dust! You can turn your “old” jewelry into something “new” and have something you LOVE to wear!

When my grandmother died, she left a piece of jewelry to my Mom that just wasn’t her taste. It contained MANY large diamonds. And, my mom, decided to turn the piece of jewelry into a lot of smaller pieces for our entire family to enjoy. She created a piece of jewelry that she thought each of us would enjoy wearing- rather than keeping a large piece of jewelry in her drawer and not wear. I now have a ring that looks like a butterfly (my grandmother always referred to me as her “little butterfly”) and it was made from stones in the piece she left to my Mom. I’m so grateful that my Mom decided to share and let us all have a piece left from my Grandmother. Jewelry can often hold a personal meaning or connection to the owner, so it’s a good idea to keep the giver’s thoughts in mind if you’re thinking about redesigning a piece.
My Mother-in-law also recently decided to repurpose some jewelry left to her by my husband’s grandmother. She had a piece of jewelry made for all the females in the family. She gave me a beautiful pair of earrings and my 10 year old daughter a pearl necklace. We both love them and it makes the gift even more special because of how sentimental it is.

If you have a jeweler that you trust and that loves to design… this is a great way to keep the sentimental stones and repurpose them into something more current or that is more your style. You can turn a pendant into a ring. You can take the diamonds from a bracelet and turn them into diamond earrings. You can make a ring into a necklace. The possibilities are really endless. With a little creativity and some patience you can have something that is EXACTLY what you desire!
Not all “old” jewelry has to be passed down. I have many friends who got engaged when they were younger (and maybe didn’t have the money or didn’t know what they really wanted) and now want to take the engagement ring and turn it into the ring of their dreams. It could be a 10, 15, or 20 year anniversary present! They may just want to update the style a bit. A diamond ring really doesn’t go out of style, but maybe your personal style has changed over the years. Many people may not realize that you can create modern jewelry out of something a little more dated.
If you do have jewelry just sitting around the house not being worn, consider giving it new life. We would love to help you create the design that you have been dreaming of.
