CARE FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING
WE ARE OFTEN ASKED, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CARE FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING?
AND THE ANSWER, WHICH IS OFTEN THE CASE, HAS MORE THAN ONE ANSWER.
HERE ARE A FEW TIPS THAT WE RECOMMEND TO YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION;
Do take your ring off before participating in a sport or other vigorous activity that could involve sharp blows. Obviously this may not be in your jewelry’s best interest!
Do place your ring in the same, safe place every day to avoid accidentally misplacing it.dimaonds and ring holder
Do clean your ring at least once a week to keep it as brilliant as the day you first put it on.
Do remove your engagement ring before beginning housecleaning or yard work that involves harsh chemicals or rough equipment.cleaning
Do have your ring inspected at least twice a year by a qualified jeweler to guarantee the setting is secure. diamond and ring inspection
Prongs may weaken over time, and getting caught on clothing, dropped or simply being worn daily may take its toll on the prongs.
Do have an accurate appraisal of your engagement ring updated every few years to protect yourself in case of loss.
Do insure your valuable engagement ring against theft, loss, or accidental damage.
In addition to these “Do” recommendations, I also have a few “Don’t” recommendations in the way that you should Care for your engagement ring;
Don’t take your ring off or place it near vulnerable places, such as sinks or bathtubs, where it could easily be knocked off and lost.
Don’t take your ring off in a public rest room to clean your hands. This should be a no brainer, but accidentally leaving your ring sitting on the sink in a public restroom is a sure recipe for disaster
Don’t wear your engagement ring while cleaning with harsh chemicals because they may discolor, dissolve, or otherwise damage either the stone or the metal.
Don’t wear your engagement ring while doing yard work. You may loose your ring in the dirt, or damage the metal or any number of other things may happen. This is simply not a good idea.
Don’t wear your ring while applying heavy makeup, lotion, or creams to your hands to avoid excessive buildup that can dull the stones, and make your ring difficult to clean.
Don’t wear your ring while swimming in a pool or other open water such as a lake or the ocean when your fingers could shrink from the colder water, allowing the ring to fall off.
Don’t excessively touch the stones in your ring – the oils in your hands can cloud the gems and reduce their sparkle, and once there is a little oil on diamonds, then everything around them sticks to them.
Don’t store your engagement ring with other jewelry where it can be easily scratched or chipped by other diamonds or gems
I know that you may want to wear your ring 24/7, but sleeping with your rings on is not the best idea. Prongs may catch on blankets and bend, which will weaken the prongs and potentially loosen your diamonds.
Don’t clean jewelry with toothpaste. Toothpaste is an abrasive which will damage the metal, and it can harden underneath diamonds, making the ring dull and difficult to clean.
Don’t check for loose stones by trying to “wiggle” your diamond with your fingers. Diamonds are harder than the metal and the act of trying to wiggle them will actually make them loose. The solution to this is to poke the diamond with a pencil if you need to check it, or listen next to your ear for a rattle, this will be a better way to judge.
If you keep these few ideas in mind about how to Care for your engagement ring, then you will be able to enjoy it for many years to come!
